Spiritual Summer is the story of a young high school graduate who spends the summer at an exotic Indian temple in Los Angeles. She falls in love with Jeff, a staunch follower, in an environment that is inhospitable to love.

My protagonist Sandy Edinburgh is a strong character who sees through the group's facade, which includes guru worship, hypocritical leaders, and repressive fundamentalist behavior. She leaves at the end of the summer to attend college, but her boyfriend remains in the group. The concluding chapters offer a startling resolution to these young people's love story.

Although the characters are made up, the story is a composite of many true stories I witnessed while living in the L.A. temple. Now this short novel is posted free at Surrealist.org and I invite you to download it and enjoy read it.
