FREE THE AMERICAN DRUG WAR PRISONERS Thousands of American citizens are being held by the government as prisoners of the War on Drugs. Pray for Peace News provides the following policy vision statements: HARD DRUGS & LSD "Get tough" policies cause harm. Drug users deserve compassionate medical treatment and counseling. MARIJUANA ACLU Policy Number 215 The ACLU opposes laws that criminalize the cultivation, possession, use and sale or delivery of marijuana, for the following reasons: 1) They impose arbitrary, often harsh, and cruel penalties for private conduct for which no criminal penalty is appropriate; 2) They impose all of the hardships of an arrest, and arrest record, and often a prison term on otherwise law-abiding young people; 3) They are selectively enforced; 4) Their enforcement relies on entrapment, illegal searches, and other means which violate civil liberties; and, 5) They divert law enforcement money and manpower from the enforcement of laws against serious crimes. HOORAY FOR WOODY! Three cheers for Hempster Woody Harrelson, for planting four seeds in front of a Kentucky courthouse, last June, with CNN cameras looking on. He was subsequently arrested and released, but said he did it as a publicity stunt to demonstrate the difference between industrial Hemp and Marijuana. PFPF wishes that more famous people would use their celebrity status to draw attention to The Cause in this Election Year. ARIZONA CANNABIS DEALER'S LICENSE Pray for Peace News has obtained its AZ dealer's license. According to the instructions that come with the license, the tax stamps are supposed to be affixed to the pot bag, showing that the tax has been paid. The stamps depict a saguaro cactus rather than a pot leaf. It's still illegal to deal pot, and Pray for Peace News does not deal pot. However, we support the effort to decriminalize it. Supporting the license is a step in that process because it has raised questions of double jeopardy in the courts. SPEAKING OUT FOR THE HERB "Its greatest attribute is the expansion of human consciousness . . . . I certainly believe that people who have ingested a certain amount of it have a better, more realistic, more spiritual and truly intellectual outlook than those who haven't. They conduct themselves with greater integrity." --Christie Bohling, co-founder of the Coalition for Hemp Awareness (CHA), quoted in an interview in High Times magazine, June 1996.
